"When good musicians play a tune, you might say "Wow, they're really
good musicians." When the best musicians play you say instead "What a
great tune!" My reaction on hearing this CD for the first time: "What
great tunes!" The Buckhannon Brothers are at such a level that you
don't notice the effort and musicianship that went toward creating the
sound. You are just conscious of good, well-played music from many
different traditions.
Curtis has a light, sure touch on the mandolin. He works variations
into each tune as he plays - sometimes hitting the note directly;
other times starting one fret below and immediately sliding up to the
note; other times damping the string somehow to achieve a lute-like
sound. This is old-time mandolin playing at its best, firmly rooted in
the 1930s and before, with no hints of bluegrass music in his
playing."

"The music of the Buckhannon Brothers always brings along a smile and
a sunny day...The Buckhannon Brothers epitomize everything honest and
true about American old-time music.
Curtis Buckhannon plays mandolin, although he sometimes changes up the
tone color by trading it in for a tenor banjo. Whatever the
instrument, every phrase is expressive; every note is clean and his
playing is firmly in the tradition, with nary a cheesy :look-at-me"
run to break the spell of the truly beautiful tunes presented with his
truly beautiful tone and gorgeous tremolo.
Dennis Buckhannon ably backs his brother on guitar, matching every
change of mood and rhythm flawlessly. Vince Corkery adds a deft touch
of bass and Emily Buckhannon plays banjo-mandolin and pump organ on a
couple of tunes.
The CD is over a hour of music, including a generous 26 tunes. The
playing is consistently great throughout and the mix of tunes holds
interest The recording quality is super and deceptively simple,
sounding like the brothers are sitting right in front of you.
